Super Fall Internship at Scripped

Location: San Francisco

Dates: Fall/Winter

Commitment: 40 hrs/week

We really need someone to help us build a few products into financial sustainability so we can keep the cloud servers floating well into next year. Our ideal Super Summer Intern will help with product development, business development, and a whole lotta marketing. We need a self-starter who can come to San Francisco most days of the week (working from your friend's apartment or Golden Gate Park sometimes is okay), and ideally has knowledge of and interest in film. Oh, and the winning intern probably already has an account on Scripped. Basic HTML or PHP knowledge is a big plus.

Send a short cover letter and resume to contact@scripped.com. Those brave enough to leave a phone number will be contacted first!

Talented San Franciscan Web Engineer

Location: San Francisco

Start Date: Fall/Winter

Commitment: 40 hrs/week, at least

Scripped needs a talented PHP and JavaScript developer to help us build new features and maintain and improve old ones.

You should be familiar with Linux cloud servers (we run on Rackspace) and standard subversion protocol. Since we merged with Zhura.com we have a lot of legacy code and two databases, plus the added wrinkle of running both Zend and Code Igniter PHP frameworks. We want a developer that is pragmatic enough to establish a sense of direction for our product architecture, but can resist the temptation to turn new feature development into intensive refactoring or re-architecture. This is a fine line between good taste and getting shit done.

Technical experience should include:

  • Previous PHP or AJAX projects that you can show us
  • Zend or Code Igniter frameworks
  • jQuery, AJAX, JavaScript
  • CSS wizardry gets you a huge pat on the back

We also need to know:

  • How do you like working in teams? What other teams have you been on?
  • How's your Rolodex? Do you network within and contribute to the development community?
  • What's the coolest project you've done? Was it for fun or for work?
  • When you're not coding, what do you do?

We don't care about:

  • Every technology you've used since you touched a keyword (just tell us which ones you're best at)
  • Verbose resumes (shorter is better)
  • Educational background - anybody can get a college degree (and we have plenty of those already). What we care about is your ability to communicate, get stuff done, and work with a team. But if you feel your education helps communicate those traits, tell us about it.

Location:

  • Sorry, San Francisco is a must. If you really want to do some contract work for us, you can be anywhere above sea level, but for salaried work we want you local. Scripped has never really had office space, but we have found that consistent, readily available face-time is an imperative. We want our full-time tech guy to be local so he or she can join us in our temp space at I/O Ventures in the Mission District of San Francisco.

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary including stock options. Our full benefits package still rests on our ability to get things moving this year. It's good motivation to work hard!

Sales and Marketing Guru

Location: San Francisco

Start Date: Fall/Winter

Commitment: 40 hrs/week

Scripped needs a creative kind of person to make sure that anyone who has ever thought of writing a screenplay knows about Scripped. Be clever, be gutsy, and be detailed. Our Guru here should be tracking just about everything.

Since its early days in 2007, Scripped has never done much with marketing online or in print. We rank well on Google and we generally know how to shake hands and get deals, but we have yet to launch a concerted marketing effort. We each have some roots in LA and knowledge of the area is crucial for whoever gets this coveted position. There's a lot of territory to cover and time not spent advertising and marketing to make up for. We need you to lead us on this path toward a real, ongoing advertising strategy and presence.

What we think we're looking for is someone who:

  • Reads entertainment and tech blogs basically every day.
  • Has existing relationships with reporters and bloggers, or the hutzpah to get them fast.
  • Has great writing skills, direct and to the point, and maybe just a little bit sassy. It's showbiz, after all.
  • Knows how to write and structure a great press release.
  • Is already familiar with all kinds of online advertising, from Facebook to Google, Adroll to Ad.ly, CPA to CPM.

We also need to know:

  • How do you like working in teams? What other teams have you been on?
  • What's the coolest project you've done? Was it for fun or for work?
  • Which website has the best marketing campaign? Which one sucks at it (besides us)?

Location:

  • Ideally in San Francisco, but a really good and trustworthy work-from-home Los Angeles kind of person could work. You definitely should be in California so we can put you on an airplane for a week-long work session every couple of months. Scripped has never really had office space, but we have found that consistent, readily available face-time is an imperative. We assume you're a people person if you're applying for this job and might like to be around us for most of the day.

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary including stock options. Our full benefits package still rests on our ability to get things moving this year. It's good motivation to work hard!
