So, I've been thinking about a couple TV pilot ideas and I've come up with the following. Wondering what you guys think of them or if you have any suggestions.
Also, what pilot ideas do you think should have been done years ago but for some reason they haven't gotten to them yet.
1. When Am I?
Have you ever thought you were born in the wrong time? Mitch Parkson does and he's figured a way around it. (Comedy)
2. Thinking Of You.
Joe McNamara loves to sit down on a park bench and people watch. Let him show you what goes on in his weird, deranged, and perverted mind. (You only see one recurring character each episode - Joe McNamara. You never see him actually speak, though we do get to hear his narration.)
Aged rocker Jay Maurer has come to find life quite boring, causing him to travel the world and enjoy the "finer" things in life. From drunken stupors in Nairobi Kenya to teaching Buddhist monks in Tibet how to pull practical jokes, Jay uses his fortune to irritate, humiliate and endanger people across the globe.
4. The Alimony Club
Four recently divorced people struggle to cope with the complexities of the single life while at the same time having to deal with their former spouses. (Marriage is not a word, it's a sentence and these people got paroled.)
5. She Thinks She's Staying
The Lowell family, Jason - Dad, Sarah - Mom, Tim - 15 year old son, Casandra - 12 year old daughter, have a house guest Mary - 71, that thinks she owns the place. Mary has a point though, she owned the place 40 years ago and has taken to the Lowell family. The only problem is, the family can't stand her and can't get rid of her.
I actually liked "Bored" but wondered if it would work like a quasi reality TV show? (ie "Larry Sanders Show") Film crew follows him around Jay ends up with a cult following inspiring copy cats, leads to international incidents? Ends up on CIA most wanted list? (Sorry, started rambling there.)
The Alimony Club sounds like what half the country is going through and an interesting logline might get it noticed. I already have a couple of ideas for shows. I'm working on a drama and a comedy with the 1st season (on the drama) already written...on paper. Some episodes are on this site.
"Loaded" a stand-up comic inherits his fathers trucking company with the caveat that he doesn't fire anyone and never sells it.
"Tenets for sale" a 40 year old teacher is fired due to budget cuts and takes a job as a rental property maintenance man, which requires him to live at the property and be on call 24-7 to keep the nuthouse ready tenets happy.
"Bored" and "When am I" look pretty cool. The others are so, so. Of course, I'm not into normal scenario films and shows. I like crazy stuff. Bored would be a slapstick, When am I would be cooler if it wasn't a comedy. Maybe if it just had a comedic relief character?
